In my role as IB coordinator at Lawton Chiles Middle Academy, I am fortunate to work with an outstanding and professional group of colleagues as well as with parents who are consistently supportive in the education of our students.
Our IB MYP (International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme) is running smoothly. Since we became an authorized IB World School in June 2012, we have continued refining our curriculum, emphasizing inquiry-based learning. Visit any classroom and you'll find students engaged in hands-on, authentic learning activities. However, we don't just focus on academics; we work to meet the needs of the whole child with character development using the IB learner profile.
Our staff is committed to lifelong education as they participate in numerous trainings and workshops throughout the school year and the summer. At Lawton Chiles you'll also see a focus on action. Embedded within each subject's curriculum are service learning opportunities related to the content being studied. For instance, when math students are studying ratios by using food labels, they bring in the actual food items and donate them to one of the outreach centers right here in downtown Lakeland!
My position as instructional coach enables me to work side by side with teachers in their classroom and collaborate to increase student engagement and achievement.
Lots of exciting things are going on here at Lawton Chiles and we are so happy that you are a part of it! Please visit our school website for more information about IB MYP or any of our outstanding teachers!
